Congratulations Grant Recipients
June 6, 2019 - Central Pennsylvania Convention & Visitors Bureau Executive Director Fritz Smith, Centre County Commissioner Chairman Michael Pipe, and Commissioners Mark Higgins and Steve Dershem today announced the recipients of 2019-20 Tourism Grants at a news conference at the Penn State/Central PA Visitors Center.
In total, 50 applicants representing 46 organizations received a total of $725,500 in financial assistance to use for visitor marketing and/or resource improvement to attract more visitors to the county and enhance the visitor experience. This year's Tourism Grant allocation represents an approximately $234,500 increase over last year, and includes nine first-time applicants, three of which spoke at the grant announcement.
Centre County has tremendous outdoor, cultural, athletic, agricultural and historical assets; we have unique, popular festivals -- some nationally recognized -- and a variety of attractions that are appealing to visitors. The annual Tourism Grant program is an important opportunity to help these organizations and initiatives grow, enhance and raise greater awareness about their offerings in order to bring new and repeat visitors to the county.
While this year's allocation represents a record funding level, it does not reflect the increased Centre County Lodging Tax, which went into effect in April. That impact will be felt next year, when the Tourism Grant pool is expected to be close to $1 million.
