Colyer Lake

Colyer Lake is a 77-acre impoundment owned and managed by the Fish and Boat Commission for public fishing and boating.  Colyer Lake is managed under Big Bass Program regulations and Panfish Enhancement Special Regulations, statewide regulations for Commonwealth Inland Waters apply for all other species of fish.  Fish inhabiting the lake include largemouth bass, bluegill, black crappie, chain pickerel, and pumpkinseed.

A fishing pier is available for persons with disabilities.

 

Conditions

Colyer Lake has been partially drawn down due to the condition of the dam. The lake will remain drawn down until funding is available to rebuild the dam.

Colyer North Access (PFBC)

  • Five miles east of State College off U.S. Route 322 at Tusseyville. From U.S. Route 322, turn south onto Taylor Hill Road. Turn right onto Boal Gap Road at the church. Turn right onto Lake Road.
  • Hours of operation: 24/7
  • Electric motors only
  • Shore fishing
  • Parking - large lot (10 vehicles or more)
  • Surfaced ramp
  • Primary boating - shallow-draft, lightweight fishing boats, canoes and inflatables

  • Electric motors only
  • Shore fishing
  • Parking - large lot (10 vehicles or more)
  • Surfaced ramp
  • Primary boating - shallow-draft, lightweight fishing boats, canoes and inflatables

 

Regulations & Licenses:

  • The operation of boats powered by internal combustion motors is prohibited.
  • Boating at Colyer Lake is limited to boats powered by electric motors and un-powered boats.
  • Two surfaced launch ramps are available along with associated parking facilities.
  • More access information is available on the Centre County map.
  • Un-powered boats may be moored at the lake in accordance with Commission property regulations.
  • To be used at the lake, boats must be registered or have a valid launch permit (permits are issued by the Commission or PA Dept. of Conservation and Natural Resources).
