2nd Annual Black Moshannon Monster Hunt
| BACK »
Want to get scared by the Bog Monster? Ever wonder what other creatures live at Black Moshannon State Park during October? Join in on the Monster Hunt to see if you can find them. The 2nd Annual Black Moshannon Monster Hunt will be held on October 5, 2013 at 1:00 pm. This event includes a 15 K mountain bike or run, and a 5 K run, or hike.
This is an adventure scavenger race to benefit Ben Coudriet. Ben is seven years old and was born with Microtia (little ear) and Atresia (no ear canal). With surgery, he has a chance of 85 to 90 percent to have hearing in his left ear. He is currently undergoing many surgical procedures to have his left ear reconstructed. Funds raised will help him with medical costs and travel.
The Monster Hunt Race is held in memory of Mike McCloskey who was a dedicated park volunteer and outdoorsman who lost a long, hard fought battle to chronic lymphatic leukemia in January 2013 at 41 years old.
The 15 K course includes some roadways and lots of trails. Some trails will be easy, but others will have a steep incline. The 5 K course will include roadways and trails with only slight inclines. There will be a kayak portion during this race. Kayaks will be provided. There will also be an obstacle course to overcome before finishing. Participants will get muddy and wet before the end of the adventure race. Helmets must be worn by all riders.
The early bird registration fee is $20, which includes a free t-shirt if registered by September 20, 2013. The day of registration fee is $25, and t-shirts are not guaranteed. Check in begins at 11:00 am at the beach area. Prizes will be awarded to the first places for the run and mountain bike. There will also be prizes for the best costumes! The awards ceremony will be held at Pavilion #8 at 3:00 pm.
The Bunny Busters Rabbit Club will be holding at bake sale at the Environmental Learning Center beginning at 12 pm. Donations will also be accepted.
